An Overview of Interventional Radiology

Interventional radiology (IR) is the newest specialty of medicine. Being a field that is synonymous with innovation, IR offers minimally invasive medical procedures that provide nonsurgical alternatives to treat diseases and solve clinical problems in every organ system and across the entire body. Guided by their expert command of imaging tools such as computer tomography (CT), fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), interventional radiologists are able to both diagnose and treat clinical problems without the invasive approach used by standard surgical techniques.
